2009 Provider Survey Results
As part of its obligation to ensure fair treatment of providers by commercial health insurers, OHIC today released the results of its 2009 survey of licensed physicians on their impressions of the actions of Commercial Insurers in the areas of:
A. “fair treatment of providers”
B. payment strategies that promote affordability and quality of health care, and
C. collaboration with others to improve Rhode Island’s health care system.
The survey found general dissatisfaction of providers towards carriers for all three of these areas. Less than 40% of respondents rated any carrier as “good’ or “very good” on nearly all of these measures (except for BCBSRI concerning additional payment satisfaction). There was significant variation in the ratings of health plans however, with respondents generally dissatisfied with United Healthcare on all metrics. Compared to 2008 - the first survey year - the response rate improved considerably.
