Direct Pay

Direct Pay is a category of health insurance that is intended for you and your family if you do not have access to health insurance through an employer and do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) is the ONLY insurer at this time that offers direct pay plans in RI.

Currently, BCBSRI offers four plans in the Direct Pay market:

  • HealthMate Coast-to-Coast Direct Plan 400/800
  • HealthMate Coast-to-Coast Direct Plan 2000/4000
  • HealthMate for HSA Direct Plan 3000/6000
  • HealthMate for HSA Direct Plan 5000/10000

These plans differ by premium rates, coinsurance rates, copayments, and the size of the deductible you must pay out-of-pocket before BCBSRI will cover some or all of your medical expenses. If you meet certain qualifying standards you may be eligible fo a premium subsidy under BCBSRI's Access Blue Program.

Please contact BCBSRI directly for information on these products:
