The OHIC is empowered by statue to protect the interests of all Rhode Island consumers. To this end, the OHIC regulates insurance carriers, ensures that health insurance premiums are calculated in a lawful manner and seeks to involve consumers more fully in their health care to help to improve the health care system as a whole.
